Synopsis:
A couple sets out to enjoy their second honeymoon but they’re met with unexpected interference.
Review:
Lucas and June (Alexx Ekubo & Uche Iwuanyanwu) had plans to celebrate their marriage with a second honeymoon but when June walked into her home and found another woman in her bed the celebration went downhill. The “other” woman was Vicky (Adunni Ade) and seducing Lucas was her only agenda.
Lucas was unaware that Vicky was in his home at the time but her presence made him look guilty. June assumed he was having an affair and stormed out to take up residence at the hotel where their honeymoon was booked.
Lucas found June at the hotel and wanted to explain that he wasn’t having an affair but she wasn’t interested. In the midst of his perplexity, he ran into his ex-girlfriend, Amelia (Dabby Chimere). In his determination to talk to June he wound up sharing a room with Amelia because the hotel had no more vacancies.
As Lucas waited for an opportunity to see June, she discovered that he shacked up with Amelia, which led her to believe he was having yet another affair.
While hanging out at the hotel, June happened to meet a new guy. She confided her marital woes in him and the next thing we know the two were in bed.
Let’s Talk. One word – pathetic. This is a movie about perceived infidelity that was completely uninteresting. First off, the characters and relationships were underdeveloped. The audience didn’t get to experience the happy times between Lucas and June, therefore, it was difficult to root for them.
The movie started in the middle and the chaos commenced before we even got a feel for the characters.
Vicky as a seductress was dreadful and it’s understandable why she didn’t succeed at getting Lucas into bed. The characters in the story were put in place only to move the story along and not because they were interesting people.
The writing was novice, low-rent, and mindless. The story was utterly predictable, disappointing, and cheap. Even the sound of fake slaps and punches were a turn-off.
The story was basically made up of manufactured “coincidences.” For example, Amelia just happened to be in the right place, at the right time, to overhear June admit that she cheated on Lucas. There were many other convenient mishaps and situations.
Performances? Amateur. Alexx Ekubo is a pretty decent actor. All I can ask is what was he doing in this movie? The rest of cast is not even worth talking about.
As for technical issues, most of Dabby Chimere’s dialogue was low and difficult to hear – not that she was saying anything of importance. Her number one line was “calm down, calm down.” Sigh…
“2nd Honeymoon” should have been titled “Second Rate.” It wasn’t impressive and quite frankly, it was a complete fiasco. EJECT
