Review:

Bambi and Frank had a tumultuous relationship. The heart of the matter is that he genuinely loved her but she was never quite satisfied with him. He was financially challenged and not aggressive enough with his career and after numerous arguments she split with him and he was heartbroken.

Soon after, Bambi met Jerry, a successful, young, man that ran his own business. They became an item fairly quickly but on the day he popped the question, Bambi realized she was pregnant for her ex.

Let’s Talk. Vroom. Vroom. That’s the sound of a revving minivan reluctantly trekking up the hill on Soap Opera Lane. I mean must we go there? “As the World Churns” anybody? “The Black & the Beautiful?” Everything about this movie was cliché and predictable. We even had our own “Erica Kane” portrayed as “Funmi Coker.”

It’s the good ‘ol common theme where girl meets boy, girl and boy split, and then girl and boy rekindle their relationship. Our leading lady, Bambi, had the choice of a poor guy or a rich one and of course, she chose wealth.

The problem with the story is that Bambi was supposed to an ambitious woman yet she wasn’t seen working at anything other than manipulation. Jerry magically landed in her lap, no social climbing necessary, and he became the fruit of her nonexistent labor.

The relationship between Bambi and Jerry was rushed and unmoving. He was in love with her and they became engaged before she even set foot in his home! How could a woman be engaged to a man and she doesn’t know where he lives?

As for Jerry, he was just too perfect and the soap opera minivan should have just ran him over. Oh wait, he did have one flaw – he was a mama’s boy…but whatever. Screech!!

As for the story, there were a few details that were a bit far out. 1) Frank told Bambi that she was pregnant, not the other way around. She could have denied it so why didn’t she? He had no proof other than gut instinct. 2) Did Bambi really drink champagne while she was pregnant? 3) Bambi and Jerry’s exes teamed up to be stalkers? How silly.

Another thing that I noticed was that Bambi wore her natural hair when she dated the poor guy but when she met the wealthy one she suddenly had long and luxurious hair. Unbeweaveable.

The movie implies that a woman desiring a rich man can now be described as ambitious. Puhleeze. If a woman wants success based on her own merit then fine but that wasn’t the story. “Bambitious?” Maybe a more suitable title would have been “GoldDiggerLicious.”  🙂  Just kidding, folks.

It’s interesting that some women don’t want broke men but broke women expect rich men to want them. Only a successful woman has the right to demand a prominent man. It’s baffling to listen to what we call “chicken head” women voicing their never-ending requirements for a potential mate which, leads me to our next topic…

The broke dude. What are we going to do with them? Sometimes, they’re the best lovers, and they make the best friends, but just don’t ask them to pay for anything. Is it about wealth or potential? Yes, potential can’t pay the bills but what if Michelle Obama didn’t believe in Barack when they were a young couple?

Performances? No complaints. The actors were believable and displayed quite a bit of emotion that actually elevated the script.

With respect to the movie, it gives us permission to push ourselves in order to obtain our goals but overall the story was flat and formulaic. EJECT
