Review:

Sex. Sex. And more sex. That’s the gist of this movie. Everyone is having sex. While Linda (Pascaline Edwards) carries on with the house help her husband Jerry fornicates with the maid, which equates to two secret affairs going on in the household.

When Jerry goes away on business he meets Efe (Roselyn Ngissah) and he’s at it again. But wouldn’t you know it, Efe’s husband gets into a fender bender with Jerry’s wife and they become an item. Sigh… By the end of this drama every woman winds up pregnant and paternity is the question of the day. Only one woman comes out on top in this story and hey, at least there’s a winner.

Let’s Talk. Writer/Director Kobi Rana certainly knows how to make use of the characters. They’re all having sex with each other so there’s no need to add new characters into the mix. He even plays a role in this movie and is appropriately cast.

As for those bothersome details here we go. There is an announcement (voice over) mid movie where the audience was informed that Kwesi (Kobi Rana) is Jerry’s stepbrother and that he may be in over his head (something to that affect). This is a cheap way to relay that Kwesi and Jerry are related. One line of character dialogue would have taught the audience this information. Show us don’t tell us.

While Jerry carried on with the maid, Della (Princess Akoto), she hinted at killing his wife so that they can officially be together. Della was a shy and timid character so it was a little offbeat for her to make such a suggestion.

Lastly, there is a scene where Kwesi was pushed off the bed and knocked unconscious. C’mon, seriously? So he almost died from being pushed off a bed? Give me a break.

Performances in this movie are good and there are sound issues in a few scenes. Other than the above, “Breaking the Rules” is a decent drama. RECOMMEND
