Title: BROKEN MIRROR (Full Story)
Sequel: FINAL BROKEN MIRROR
Starring: Jackie Appiah, James Gardiner, Roselyn Ngissah, Fred Amugi
Synopsis:
A woman who lovingly supported her boyfriend during hard times was discarded after he was blessed with success.
Review:
Thompson (James Gardiner) is a college graduate that couldn’t find a job. He resorted to working as a carpenter and struggled to make ends meet. He had been dating Priscilla (Jackie Appiah) and she willingly gave him money and supported him both emotionally and financially.
Priscilla was far from rich and worked as a seamstress. Two of her co-workers, Evelyn (Roselyn Ngissah) and Angela (Victoria Lebene Mekpah) always knocked her for giving Thompson her heart and money. But Priscilla stuck by Thompson and believed he would succeed in God’s time. And that he did.
Within a year Thompson became a success and married Priscilla. They were expecting their first child and life was fantastic. Suddenly Thompson received pictures of Priscilla that showed her with another man and he instantly believed that she cheated. This incident marked the demise of their marriage.
Let’s Talk. Two words – another disappointment. This is a failed attempt at relationship drama that basically went nowhere. Throughout this movie I constantly found myself thinking “what”? “Huh?” It’s not clear how the pictures happened with Priscilla and Evelyn’s boyfriend or how Evelyn figured that Priscilla stole her man. The pictures contained no nudity or kissing for that matter so its perception was speculative and proved nothing.
Priscilla’s so-called friends, Evelyn and Angela, were a piece of work. They always berated her for giving Thompson “too much” and warned that he may break her heart. Meanwhile, Angela slyly came onto Thompson and Evelyn plotted to split them up. So while they warned Priscilla to beware of Thompson, they were the very ones that couldn’t be trusted. This may have been the writer’s attempt at expressing jealousy between girlfriends but this aspect of the story just felt contrived.
Making matters worse is the fact that Thompson would show the pictures to his father and not Priscilla. It would have made sense for him to confront her with the so-called evidence and allow her to defend herself. Also, when Priscilla learned of the photos she should have demanded to see them.
At the end of the story Thompson wound up engaged to some woman that came out of nowhere while he was still married to pregnant Priscilla.
The writing was unprofessional to say the least and the story was baseless and failed to connect the dots. As for the technical stuff, there were some strange musical choices that didn’t fit the scenes. There were also instances where the music was too loud and made the dialogue difficult to hear.
As for acting, the movie boasts a talented cast but in no way does that compensate for a lame story. The performances are nothing to write about but the upside is that James and Jackie work well together as love interests.
The movie had the nerve to end abruptly without resolving the issues it presented. It’s called “Broken Mirror” but “Broken Story” was a more suitable title. EJECT
NOTE: After the initial TAM review of “Broken Mirror” a movie titled “Final Broken Mirror” was released. The original “Broken Mirror” DVD clearly stated “FULL STORY.” Doesn’t the words FULL STORY mean the complete movie? Apparently there was an error and the second half of the movie was omitted from the original “Broken Mirror” DVD.
After viewing the “Final Broken Mirror” (the second part of the story) some of the issues that TAM reported as unresolved was actually settled. In this segment of the saga, Thompson’s life was struck with bad luck after he took up with his new girlfriend Sandy (Jasmine Baroudi). His business began to crumble and so did his relationship with her.
Thompson’s misfortune opened the door for Priscilla to come back into his life and he finally showed her the photos that caused him to believe she was cheating on him. As noted above, the pictures simply weren’t provocative enough to arouse suspicion.
The movie had a happy ending but it was still unclear who was actually pulling the strings in the chaos between Thompson and Priscilla. The story execution wasn’t the best and therefore Talk African Movies’ original opinion and one star rating still stands.

Gud
WOW. Watching the movies and to have seen a lot of rubbish movies in the past – This movie was more than brilliant and well laid out/displayed. There was quality which obviously was not discovered by the looks of your blind statement. The ghanaians are clearly doing their best and unless you had some valid and more constructive points to share which could have compared the way this movie was set against another one you are rather making it more confusing with your strange analysis as to why this movie should be seen as “Lame”. I can’t blame your type though, just want to let your negative comments out, express and share your views and the end completely forgetting what it takes to get something out of a project – something classy, original and unique.
Back to the comments made, if Thompson showed the pictures to Jackie it looks like the obvious has been put on the table and none of the remaining scenes would have been necessary to add to the film, but the fact that he didn’t keeps viewers even more questioned as to how all this would be revealed. Movies shouldn’t always be about the obvious it should be interesting enough to keep viewers on their toes and wanting to desperately find out how the story would end. Everything shall fall to place, make sense and turn out right in God’s own plan as well as everything happens for a reason – which Thompson had to realise and learn the hard way after throwing his wife out and rushing to get married to the woman that gave him badluck – like the dad kept warning him . Priscilla swore by the unborn child in her womb she never saw the nakedness of another man but Thompson yet he didn’t believe it and made her suffer and though she had forgiven him due to her very kind and loving heart God intervened and put down his own judgement fought for her justice as she was indeed telling the truth . Everything happens for a reason and with the moving words of Jackie’s character and the way it did all work out it just proved that.
Finally, as for the ending part – if only you paid attenrion you would have seen that the ending was beautiful. Priscilla and Thompson got back together, Thompson’s business were up and running again, he could walk.. I mean what I don’t get some critics these days especially whwn theres no sense in what they are saying. Everything was just fine and unless you can come up with an even better movie which im in high doubts with i suggest you keep doing what it is that you are doing and let the producers and directors do their job afterall it isn’t a silly task that can’t be quality it has to be sell so they know exactly what they are doing. There is another part which I wouldn’t see as necessary but I am very open as to how it will all turn out to be. As for the title of the story – hahahaha since you came up with a silly title like “Broken story” that you believe should have been the title instead, I can see there is no creativity in your ideas and lack of imagination in what you are saying. Broken mirror makes sense in a way that perhaps their relationship was as solid as rocks yet it was so sensitive as the glass of a mirror indicating that when enough force has been pressured on the mirror it will surely break to pieces sometimes they say when something is broken to pieces there is no way it can be fixed so they throw it away and buy a new one but as much as you are trying to enjoy your new mirror it hasn’t got that special touch that the other mirror was bringing yet you try to live and accept things the way they are as you see it like a situation that is beyond your own strength to fix it. Then you realise things are getting much worse for you and even though it is broken to fix it do not stop attempting to try and put back the pieces. The mirror was rebuild and relationship was even more appreciated, valued and loved than it had ever before. Like I said it did mention to watch out for another chapter called “Final Broken Mirror” and by Gods willing it will be another great success.
I just want to deeply show my appreciation to all the cast members, directors, producers for making it a success and finally thanks Mikki for a superb story line.
Thank you so much for sharing your views of the movie. The reason I created the TAM website was because I am always interested at how movies affect people differently. Clearly, it’s the nature of the business and it’s the viewers that ultimately make a movie successful or not. I am completely aware of all it takes to make movies since I have shot a few indies myself. Movies that Nigeria and Ghana can produce in two weeks would take two months or more in Hollywood so in that sense the African movie industry is amazing.
As for any confusion it’s a filmmakers job to create a clear and concise story so that no one is left confused. Even when Angela came on to Thompson did she want him or was she just testing his love for Priscilla or both? Her motive was not made clear as well as other aspects of the movie. A part of the turn off with this movie as noted above was due to the fact that the first DVD stated “Full Story” (see picture above) yet it only contained half of the movie. I believed the movie ended at that point when there was more to come. Since then another DVD (Final BM) was released that contained the remainder of the movie.
I was not impressed with the story or the execution of it. You feel it was original but original doesn’t always equate to good. As for movies that I feel are better they are listed on the websites’ “Best Teller” list. We are all entitled to our opinions and that’s all it is – an opinion, and I appreciate your time and candid comments.
There can l get this movie to buy as am in need of it badly
am in Kenya and i just want to know where i can find this movie to buy it..I watched it in citizen television and its wow!!!!!!
Hi Lucie, this is a 2014 release so it may be hard to find. Try http://www.africamovies.com. They carry some of the older movies. Good Luck!
Agree with the top comments, I feel the ending wasn’t what it should have been in the sense that we don’t know what happened to the girlfriend nor the evil friends. I think the movie was left hanging. I feel the girlfriend and the friends were supposed to get their punishments for being evil.
Hi Soso, thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree with your comment. One of the problems with this movie was the unanswered questions and loose ends.
who sang the song my heart is bleeding? I like the song
