Starring: Yvonne Nelson, Eddie Watson, Kweku Elliott, Okawa Shaznay, Zynnell Lydia Zuh
Synopsis: A group of couples attend a weekend retreat to work on their relationships but they exit the event worse off than before.
Review:
First up are Tracey and Jesse, played by Okawa Shaznay and Kweku Elliott. Tracey was at a radio station promoting a book about her love life. As she divulged highlights of the book the movie was played simultaneously.
Tracey appeared to have the perfect union with Jesse but behind closed doors she wanted a baby and Jesse wasn’t ready. She later found out that he was having an affair with Nia (Zynnell Lydia Zuh). Nia had been pressuring Jesse to leave Tracey yet she hadn’t left her own boyfriend, Carlos (Tony Lachman).
Tenzy and Mike (Naomi Watson & Jose Tolbert) were Tracey’s friends and they had been dating for two years. Tenzy was ready to seal the deal but Mike procrastinated to tie the knot because he was having an affair with Sussie (Chantelle Asante).
The last couple, Lisa and Jason (Yvonne Nelson & Eddie Watson), had problems in the bedroom. In addition to sexual struggles, Jason was still in love with his ex-girlfriend, Tenzy (listed above). Making matters worse, Tenzy and Lisa were best friends.
Another subplot centered on Shane (Teddy Ameyaw), who was expected to follow in his father’s footsteps as a pastor but he had no such plans. Instead he lamented on how to tell his father that he was homosexual and in love with a man.
Let’s Talk. This movie is a cross between Weekend Getaway and 4Play Reloaded but not as good. The number one problem was that it’s chaotic. There were too many characters and storylines to keep up with.
The movie is called “Cheaters Vacation” so of course everyone was cheating but the downfall is that the couples were cheating with the significant others of their friends.
Some scenes made no sense such as the one where Nia cried her eyes out when she and Carlos broke up yet just minutes earlier she was dead set on being with Jesse.
Also unlikely is that fact that Lisa and Tenzy were best friends when Lisa is married to Tenzy’s ex-fiancé. The characters were played too close and it was difficult to swallow that they were friends when it was all said and done.
The characters Sussie and Richie (Umar Krupp) added humor to the story. Richie was an openly gay character that not only had crushes on most of the men but he also helped Sussie scheme to the man she wanted.
Performances? The acting certainly put a bullet in the production. Some of the actors were stiff while others lacked talent, spark, and speech fluidity. Okawa, Kweku, Yvonne, and Eddie were believable as couples but the actors that played Mike and Tenzy had zero chemistry.
As with the original “Cheaters” movie, “Cheaters Vacation” was made in the name of fun but this series was just too cumbersome with second rate acting. There were plenty of arguments, fights, and sex to spare but at the end of the day the movie was more of a turn-off than funny. EJECT
