Title: DESPERATE HOUSE GIRLS (1 & 2)
Starring: Ini Edo, Tamara Etiemo, Mary Lazarus, Desmond Elliott, Kenneth Okolie
Synopsis:
Three women vow to become rich and become housemaids to the wealthy with intentions of manipulating their way into their employers’ pockets (or pants).
Review:
Ekemini, Victoria, and Ivie worked as waitresses at an eatery. They were fed-up of being ill-treated and sought to better their lives. Ekemini (Ini Edo) devised a plan to become a housemaid and had an ulterior motive to become the madam of the house. She obtained a job with a married couple and the mission began.
When Victoria (Tamara Etiemo) and Ivie (Mary Lazarus) saw the posh house Ekemini worked in, they were impressed and quickly followed suit. Segun (Desmond Elliot), a widower with a young daughter, hired Victoria and Ivie (Mary Lazarus) was employed by a successful, single, mother.
It wasn’t long before Ekemini wormed her way into Mark’s (Kenneth Okolie) pants. He was the owner of the house but she scrapped her plan of becoming the madam when his wife discovered the affair.
Meanwhile, Girl # 2, Victoria was making headway when her employer, Segun, became intrigued by her knowledge of art and wanted to get to know her better. Their relationship was going well until Segun realized that Victoria had been stealing from him.
The third girl, Ivie, met the man of her dreams in the affluent neighborhood she worked in. She pretended she was college educated and the owner of the house in order to keep her potential mate interested.
Let’s Talk. “Desperate House Girls” is a hit! It cleverly weaved romance and humor into a get rich quick story. It’s a well-written screenplay but not everyone lived happily ever after.
The story left a few questions. Both Victoria and Ekemini were caught in the act. What made Segun come back into the house and catch Victoria? He was last seen in the car.
Also, what made Mark’s wife appear in Ekemini’s bedroom? Without visual proper cause these scenes came off as convenient for the story. Also, what became of Ekemini at the end of the movie?
Performances? Spot on. Every actor was believable and there was no dead weight. Hallelujah.
The cinematography, music, and dialogue were great and the chemistry between Ini Edo and Kenneth Okolie worked.
Kudos to Desmond Elliott and Uduak Isong on a fine production! RECOMMEND
