DUMEBI’S SISTER (1 & 2)
Sequel: SOMAGA & FRANK (1 & 2)
Starring: Kenneth Okonkwo, Funke Akindele, Abraham Madubuiko, Tchidi Chikere, Osita Chukwu
Synopsis:
Frank’s domestic problems continued when Dumebi ran off with another man and her sister stepped in as his wife.
Review:
Frank’s marriage to the uneducated and wayward, Dumebi (Mercy Johnson) hit a bump in the road. Dumebi found another man and relocated to England with their son. Frank (Kenneth Okonkwo) felt cheated and wanted the bride price he paid refunded. When he visited Dumebi’s father in the village for the money, he was offered Somaga (Funke Akindele), Dumebi’s sister, as a replacement.
Somaga turned out to be a handful, even more so than Dumebi. She was unruly with mood swings and a mouth that ran a mile a minute. In her first week at Frank’s home, she had a violent fit in his living room, beat up his gateman, ruined dinner, and sexually forced herself on him.
Frank couldn’t tolerate her and made her return to the village for “home training.” Somaga was adverse to life in the village and the lack of air-conditioning, customary village food, and mosquito bites, sent her packing back to Frank’s city home. She still lacked the “home training” that Frank insisted upon so he had her escorted back to the village to get it.
Somaga received the life lessons that Frank requested but above all, she learned how to treat a man. She returned to his home with a new personality but she came off as a pretentious servant instead of a wife.
Meanwhile, Frank’s friend introduced him to a “proper” woman – the type every man should want to marry. But as the previous Dumebi movies conveyed, Frank was unlucky in love and found himself back at square one.
Let’s Talk. Dumebi having a sister was a joke in and of itself. This movie continued the crazy comedy and Funke Akindele made the Somaga character a riot. The movie was full of laughs due to the fights, mishaps, and the work-in-progress marriage between Frank and Somaga.
The core of story was that Frank didn’t want an ordinary woman yet he couldn’t find the right balance with the wild women he kept marrying. Dumebi may have been dirty and stupid but Somaga was a crazy loud mouth.
The story pacing was sufficient but four parts was completely unnecessary. There really wasn’t that much of a story for four parts but the filmmakers stretched it to the finish line.
What’s different about the story was that the unconventional woman came out on top while the typical pretty woman wasn’t of interest. It was all about a vivacious personality and a body to go with it. As the movie stated, there’s more to a woman than just a pretty face.
One of the funniest parts was how aggressive Somaga was with Frank in the bedroom. She simply took him and there was noting he could do about it. Also funny was the scene where Frank asked Somaga if she was raised in the zoo. Hilarious.
The one major problem was the sound. It was terrible. It’s unbelievable that such poor sound continued for FOUR parts. With so much yelling going on, this was something that they needed to get right. Adequate equipment or a new sound person was definitely needed.
In terms of performances, Kenneth Okonkwo reprised his role as Frank and he excelled at playing the patient, successful man, in search of a wife. I can’t imagine anyone else playing the role of Somaga. Funke Akindele was off the chain.
Is there a Dumebi & Somaga movie out there somewhere? That certainly would be a treat. RECOMMEND

Great Movie
I liked it too.
Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site.
It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between usability and visual appeal.
I must say you have done a great job with this. Also,
the blog loads super fast for me on Firefox. Outstanding Blog!
Thank you!
