Synopsis:
A Nigerian man falls for the trickery of an alluring woman only to be heartbroken when he learned her future plans didn’t include him.
Review:
Dan (Raz Adoti) came home one evening to a surprise birthday party thrown by his fiancée, Christy (Soleil Diva). Christy’s heart was in the right place but she unwittingly gave Dan a gift he wasn’t expecting – Candice (Syr Law). Candice attended the party with Dan’s friend but he left the event without her. So Dan offered to take her home and she didn’t waste time with her plot to seduce him.
At first Dan was tempted by Candice’s advances but he resisted her. But she was relentless and she kept showing up in his life. His fiancée became suspicious that he was cheating when he came home late one night and smelled of cigarette smoke. Dan was a non-smoker however Candice had him doing things he didn’t normally do.
An opportunity to search Dan’s phone presented itself and Christy found Candice’s phone number stored in his address book. When she confronted Dan about Candice, his answers were not believable. Her anger got the best of her and to Dan’s surprise, Christy threw him out and ended the relationship.
Well, who better to lick Dan’s wounds than Candice? They wound up in bed that night and as the relationship progressed Dan thought he had a future with her but she had different plans.
Let’s Talk. This is a romantic drama. The story is fairly simple as it followed a man that made a huge mistake. After Candice roped Dan in, she cut the cord and then carried on with her own agenda.
Dan later realized he was just a temporary fix in her life and he was forced to do some soul searching. The movie wasn’t really profound and infidelity is a common theme but the movie did manage to keep an audience watching with it’s built in messages.
What was interesting was that Dan thought Candice was the woman of his dreams, his “match” as he put it yet he was engaged to Christy only weeks before. It makes one wonder what was Christy? If she wasn’t his match then what was she? The consolation prize? Why was he engaged to her?
Maybe Dan was just “whipped” because he did brag about how good Candice was in bed, which leads to another topic. Why is it that some men don’t marry the woman they have the best sex with? It appeared that Dan loved Christy but he wasn’t in love with her.
There was life after Dan and Christy moved on. She accepted a date with a man of a different race who attended the same church she did. The relationship didn’t get too serious but the underlying message was that women should expand their horizons when it comes to searching for a mate. “Mr. Right” may very well appear in a different package than what is expected.
Performances by the cast sufficed. As for technical issues there were some minor issues with hearing dialogue.
“Faces of Love” is a movie that was shot in the U.S. which seems to be the latest trend. There are millions of Africans living in the United States so it’s a good idea for movies to reflect that. These filmmakers are not changing the face of African movies they’re just expanding it.
Honestly, this movie didn’t blow me away but for one thing it wasn’t burdened with dragged out scenes or unnecessary dialogue. It’s a decent movie that only runs for about an hour and a half – short when compared to most Nollywood movies. RECOMMEND
