HAPPY DEATH DAY

Title: HAPPY DEATH DAY (Full Story)

Starring: Alexx Ekubo, Elikem Kumordzi, Kafui Danku, James Gardiner, Toosweet Annan

Synopsis:

A young man faces death on his 25th birthday when his friends throw him into a pool and he winds up in the hospital.

Review:

Umar (Alexx Ekubo) celebrated his birthday the night before and a surprise party was planned for the day of. On his special day, his girlfriend and a group of his friends arrived at his home for the bash. After they wished him a happy birthday they jovially threw him into the pool.

When Umar remained still in the water for too long his friends realized something was wrong. Dela (Elikem Kumordzi) dived in and dragged him out, unconscious. They panicked but eventually got him to a hospital. Things didn’t look good.

Umar’s friends believed he was dead and feared going to jail. They removed him from the hospital without proper consent with plans to dump his body into the sea. They hoped no one from the hospital would remember them and they carried out their desperate plan unaware that Umar was just unconscious.

Let’s Talk. This is a drama with an unusual storyline but that doesn’t necessarily equate to good. First off, there were quite a few unbelievable moments. When Umar’s friends dragged him out of the pool, a busload of people arrived at the home ready to party. Instead of rushing Umar to the hospital, his friends wasted time trying to get rid of the guests.

In another scene where they were transporting Umar’s body, it’s unreal that his girlfriend held him in her arms and couldn’t tell that he was still alive. Now, there is a logical explanation for all of the unfathomable moments in the movie, which came at the end but by then feelings of doubt were already swarming.

The movie is basically a drama with a pool party as the backdrop. The movie continuously flipped between a supposed corpse storyline and bikinis at the pool.

Performances were good, in particular, Nana Ama McBrown. She had a small part but a one-dimensional actress she is not. Stone Bwoy guest starred and provided the musical entertainment.

“Happy Death Day” is written and directed by Kobi Rana and his style of writing tends to take an audience on an adventure in the way that “Kiss Me if You Can” did. This movie does offer a joy ride however; the movie on a whole was disenchanting and toxic with absurdity. EJECT

Sorry for my language, but it hurts me when those who have the opportunity do crap like this n expect us to clap for them.
If I was Rana, this would be the last peace of junk I would ever write.

Honestly, am not going to say am disappointed, becos I wasn’t appointment at the first place.
But I respected Rana. N now, i think I mean it when I say, I hate him, for making a joke out of what made the world a better place.(movies)

I hear you Talata. I think Kobi Rana has become hit or miss. I know he has potential though. He just has to go back to the computer and drum up something as good, if not better, than his “Kiss Me if You Can” movie. Don’t lose faith yet.

    • Kobi Rana, u are the best youngest director n film maker in Ghana
