Starring: Mike Ezuruonye, Mary Remmy Njoku, Segun Arinze, Alexx Ekubo
Synopsis:
A woman that reluctantly had an abortion worms her way back into her lover’s life with a hidden agenda.
Review:
The movie opens up to Hazeezat (Mary Remmy Njoku) on the operating table. She was aborting an unwanted pregnancy…unwanted by her boyfriend, Alhaji (Segun Arinze). He was a married man yet he juggled his share of women. He promised her marriage but in reality Hazeezat was just another notch on his belt.
After the procedure Hazeezat seemingly had nowhere to go and stayed with Roberto (Mike Ezuruonye). Roberto had a huge crush on her and he was overjoyed to come to her aid. His feelings for her were genuine but he was a man of limited means. Although Hazeezat cared for him she yearned for the financial stability that Alhaji provided.
At the advice of a friend, Hazeezat manipulated her way back into Alhaji’s life and left Roberto hanging. He had no idea where she disappeared to as she shacked up with Alhaji. When Alhaji’s pregnant wife returned from the U.K. the turbulence in the story commenced.
Let’s Talk. This is a drama that established a subtle tone of intrigue early on. It seamlessly shifted from one scene to the next as we watched the main character, Hazeezat play with the two men in her life.
The two men were an interesting element in the story. Roberto was single, broke and genuinely loved Hazeezat while Alhaji was a married, wealthy, player. Clearly, money and love were the opposing frontrunners for Hazeezat’s heart.
While Hazeezat had her eye on Alhaji, she brought out the best in Roberto. He changed his mentality and per her advice he obtained a promising job. Sometimes in life it’s about potential; it’s not where a man is, it’s where he’s headed.
For the most part the movie was weird and strangely compelling. As for its conclusion it was satisfactory or disappointing depending on how one perceives movies. Without giving it away, the story ended with a plot twist that sort of negates the majority of the story.
Basically the drama took us on a curious ride of conspiracy and then suddenly dropped us off…at their destination not ours. The flashback scenes were used to navigate and helped make sense of the preceding scenes that shaped the movie’s bizarre ending.
In terms of performances the movie was well acted – no dead weight. Mary Remmy could have easily taken the angry b*tch route but she took a subtle approach to the character that worked. Mike Ezuruonye is the ultimate professional. His combination of love, nervousness, and excitement was superb and his rapport with Mary was great.
This story had me from start to finish. Although I didn’t particularly care for the ending I did enjoy the majority of the movie. RECOMMEND
