HIDDEN FANTASY

Title: HIDDEN FANTASY (1 & 2)

Sequel: END OF HIDDEN FANTASY (1 & 2)

Starring: John Dumelo, Martha Ankomah, Juliet Ibrahim

Synopsis:

Jamal’s sexuality is in question by his family but when he finally finds Mrs. Right he also finds himself at war with her lesbian roommate.

Review:

This is supposed to be a romantic drama with love interests Mirriam (Princess Shingle) and Jamal (John Dumelo). The conflict arises when Mirriam’s lesbian roommate is jealous of her relationship with Jamal and creates friction with him.

Let’s Talk. First off, Alima, the lesbian character, was constantly pursued by Justin, a character played by Emmanuel Emoabino. She treated him like garbage and even poured a glass of wine on him. What man continues to chase a woman that’s so rude to him? What was it that he loved about her?

Secondly, Mirriam goes on her first date with Jamal. Was the first date really dinner seated at the bar? How tacky. When were they going to ask for a table?

Speaking of our lead couple, Jamal and Mirriam, there was absolutely no chemistry between them – NONE whatsoever. John Dumelo must have bumped his head prior to accepting this role. He’s too hot to be cast alongside just anyone. Sigh… Mirriam, by the way, is played by Princess Shingle, who is the screenwriter of this movie.

So back to Alima, the lesbian. She’s in love with Miriam and then slyly drugged her. When Mirriam woke up she found herself naked and in bed with Alima and is shocked to discover that Alima is a lesbian. Huh? All that time Mirriam didn’t know that her best friend AND roommate is a lesbian? This scene was probably supposed to be the movie’s climax but it was utterly stupid.

How could Mirriam not be aware of the “man-to-man” talks Alima had with Jamal (Johm Dumleo), Mirriam’s boyfriend?   Actually, earlier in the movie Mirriam actually promised Alima that she would never leave her for a man. What was that supposed to mean?

As for errors, there’s a scene where Mirriam told Jamal “I don;t ever want to see Mirriam in this house again.” Dialogue error. She’s Mirriam.  She meant to say she didn’t want to see Alima in the house again. And just when you thought this movie couldn’t get any worse we see the scene where Jamal was held captive in front of a transparent door. Seriously?

There’s also a wedding scene. Did we really need to spend so much time on the wedding vows? Even Dumelo looked like he wished that scene would end.

At the end of the day, the only “hidden fantasy” here is none other than the writer’s fairytale desires – for example, the decorative heart on the windshield of a car, the fantasy wedding to Dumelo, and her obvious desire to be a movie star.

Martha Ankomah and Christabel Ekeh were placed on backburner while Princess Shingle played the lead. Nonsense. If you look at the DVD cover shown above, there’s a big picture Martha Ankomah displayed but she’s hardly in the movie.

“Hidden Fantasy” is simply preposterous and clearly not what the previews suggested. The sequel is titled “End of Hidden Fantasy” and it couldn’t have been named any better.  EJECT
