HITCH

Starring: Chidi Mokeme, Bobby Obodo, Mary Njoku, Nora Ugo

Synopsis:

A man recently fired from his job resorts to desperate measures to procure funds for his son’s surgery.

Review:
Ben (Chidi Mokeme) hit hard times. He lost his job, his wife abandoned the marriage, and his young son was in need of surgery.

After a bank loan fell short he was scheduled to appear in an advertisement to induce public donations. At the last minute his pride wouldn’t allow him to announce his problems to the world and he rejected the idea.

With nowhere to turn, Ben reconsidered a role in a criminal act that was offered to him by his delinquent friend. He was reluctant at first but it was his last option and the payout was attractive. Of course, things didn’t turn out as planned.

Let’s Talk. This is not your typical drama. It revolves around a desperate man that took drastic measures in the name of money. The story commenced with Ben’s issues but then branched into other subplots.

The question becomes whether the story was believable. Would a man go from professional to criminal in an instant? To save a child, maybe. Yes, Ben had misgivings and he was led to believe that it would be a crime without casualties, but somehow the character transition was murky.

Here’s the thing. Ben said he would do anything to save his ill son. His choices were to either create a sympathy advertisement to get public donations or commit a crime for money. If he were willing to do anything then he would have swallowed his pride and went through with the ad instead of gambling with his life. If there had been a scene where his son was rushed to the emergency room then it would have been conceivable that Ben made such a drastic decision.

In the midst of all the action, the fact that Ben’s son was supposedly dying seemed to disappear into thin air. Actually, he appeared to be a normal boy and as referenced above there wasn’t enough of an indication that he was on the verge of death. And by the way, what happened to his son at the end of the story? Since the boy was the motivation behind all the drama one would think that the writer would have zipped up this loose end.

What was positive were the intricacies of the storyline. The history of the chief and the issues with his wife bumped up the drama. The writer created more than one suspect and continued to create conflict beyond the original premise.

Performances were the reason to watch. Chidi Mokeme didn’t disappoint and Bobby Obodo has just become my favorite bad boy.

Video sufficed although there was sporadic issues with sound. RECOMMEND
