Starring: Belinda Effah, Desmond Elliott, Moyo Lawal, Bibi Sonye
Synopsis:
Two women sought revenge after movie producers lured them into bed with the promise of lead roles but they were duped instead.
Review:
Tommy and Uche (Tope Tedela and Desmond Elliott) were filmmakers that used their position in the film business to take advantage of women.
Tommy, a producer, wormed his way into bed with Ada (Bibi Sonye) as he promised her the lead role in an upcoming movie. Soon after, the check he gave her bounced and she received word that she had been excluded from the project.
Uche (Desmond Elliott), the director, promised Tricia (Jackie Idimogu) the same lead role and then coerced her into sleeping with him. The next day, he had a change of attitude and announced that an A-list actress would be playing the part.
Biola (Moyo Lawal) was yet another woman who had been auditioning to partake in the Nollywood industry and she too had been swindled into believing that she would land a lead role. But Biola was at the point where she had enough of the trickery and she joined forces with Ada to plot sweet revenge.
Let’s Talk. This is story that seemed to mimic the much gossiped about Nollywood movie industry. There have been all sorts of rumors about what goes on behind the scenes and as they say, art imitates life.
The movie showcased women that were more than desperate for fame and fortune. Unfortunately, the women were just used by unscrupulous directors.
The movie itself was basically flat and didn’t offer much in the way of excitement or suspense. Actually, its subject matter is similar to that of Nollywood Wahala, a 2013 movie directed by Tchidi Chikere. “Nollywood Wahala” was layered with subplots that made it a more engaging story.
According to “Horny Goat” movie directors and the like, felt entitled to sex if they cast women in roles. As mentioned in the Nollywood Wahala review, why is it that women are subject to perform sexual favors and not men? Are men expected to appear at a hotel room ready for sex with the director if they’re cast in a movie?
The situation lends itself to a lack of respect for women. And the disrespect goes both ways; men don’t respect women and some women don’t respect themselves. Movie industry professionals should be held to higher standards and so should women.
The principal of the movie reflects that what happens in the dark will come to light. The women in the story not only plotted revenge, but they also exposed the ruthless filmmakers to the media. Executive producers withdrew financing as the result of the scandal the same way producers reneged on roles promised to women that they slept with.
The irony of the movie lies in its title. Horny Goat is actually an herb used to treat erectile dysfunction, similar to Viagra. Therefore, the women in the story were the horny goats as they substituted as stimulants that riled up the men.
Performances were so-so. Belinda Effah’s portrayal of a desperate wannabe actress who was willing to do anything to be in a movie was funny. Moyo Lawal was worth a watch also.
The movie on a whole was just okay. Nothing thrilling. See it if you’re interested in the subject matter. EJECT

It’s a funny idea but the story unfinished…
As far as I’m concerned they should end it right here.
