Starring: Zynnell Zuh, Gbenga Titiloye, Yvonne Okyere, Paulina Oduro, Kweku Elliot, Helen Asante
Synopsis:
A beautiful woman with aspirations to be a singer falls for an older man, completely aware that he’s her best friend’s father.
Review:
Ivory (Zynnell Zuh) is a young woman that had been preparing for stardom as a singer. It seemed that the route to fame was to sleep her way to the top but she refused to sacrifice her integrity. She wasn’t earning a living as a singer so she took a temporary office job working for Peter, her best friend’s father.
It was love at first sight for Peter (Gbenga Titiloye) but there were a few hindrances. First off he was her boss, he was old enough to be her father, and his daughter was Ivory’s best friend.
At first, Ivory was reluctant to get involved with him under the circumstances but he won her over with his sincerity. They had a great rapport and secretly dated but conflict set in when Peter’s daughter caught them together.
Let’s Talk. This is a younger woman/older guy love story told against the backdrop of the route to success as a recording artist. The message here is to love regardless. Simple.
This is a movie with meaning as it alluded to discrimination. Some women may have instantly passed on an older guy without giving it a second thought but the beauty is that Ivory looked beyond the exterior and found the man of her dreams. Conflict ensued because the love of her life was also her best friend’s father, which caused an awkward situation.
The movie wasn’t loaded with suspense or twists and turns. It was a simple story filled with tender moments and poetic dialogue. The relationship between Ivory and Peter was developed slowly and we got to share in how they connected. As they got to know each other, we got to know them.
One of the things that made the story work was the fact that Peter’s ex-wife wasn’t a figment of our imagination and he wasn’t just conveniently available. His ex-wife was bought into the mix and the audience was able to see and understand why their relationship failed, thus making the relationship between Ivory and Peter more acceptable.
By the end of the movie, Ivory got her wish as a recording artist and although it may have come off as a little fantastical, the movie does require a “happily ever after” ending after an ill-fated blow to the story.
The question becomes whether a younger man would date an older woman? What happens when the situation is reversed? Hmm… The movie also tackles the tough decision of following your dreams versus playing it safe with a regular job.
Performances were pretty good. Zynnell Zuh was a graceful leading lady while Gbenga Titiloye exuded such sincerity that I would have dated him too.
Honestly, “Love Regardless” does have some aspect of predictability. It’s not necessarily “must see” status but I enjoyed it. The music and romance made it charming enough to RECOMMEND.

I love my country
Me too.
love regardless is a movie I have watched over and over, its my first time in recent times to sit and watch African movies over and over again, i love the movie becos the love between peter and Ivory was so real, honestly I fell in love with peter with his patience and so much maturity with ivory, you can see it all over the young woman(superman) that she was in love with this guy like peter called himself, she begged him to kiss her after their first date, peter was not in a hurry, how I wish he didn’t die because after his ordeal with his wife, he needed that happy ending, lesson is that you can fall in love with an older man not for his money or anything but just because he treats you right.
Lauren, so well said and that’s the message in the story. It was pure love, no ulterior motives, no games. I couldn’t understand why they killed Peter off. Maybe it was for the purpose of adding a twist to the story but it would have been a beautiful thing to have Peter & Ivory go off into the sunset and live happily ever after, right? Oh well. While many women go for the exterior – money, looks, etc., this movie reiterates that we as women, should choose the man that knows how to treat a woman. Loved your comments! Thanks!
This is indeed a beautiful movie indeed. The great thing here is that Peter was very sincere honest and already told Ivory about his intentions from the very onset. Peter had,a good heart and indeed was able to act his love out to Ivory. He knew how to maintain the relationship, that made it easy for Ivory to fall in love with him and feel safe and secure with him. Any woman given what Peter gave r o Ivory, would stay in love forever. He gave her his time, attention, text her, spoke to her….he shared his goal about their relationship from the beginning. Wooow this is one good movie. ….so sad that Peter had to die so quickly…..
I knowwww. I don’t know why the writers killed him off. I was so disappointed but I still enjoyed this movie for many reasons.
This is one of the very beat movies I have watched in recent times. The characters were really up to it. Gbenga is such a good actor. He really is cool headed, mature and played his role very well. The character – Peter is so sincere and demonstrates what real life is about. Patient, attentive caring, not overbearing, honest, forthrightness were the attributes demonstrated by Peter in the movie makes it a top notch for me. The very lesson for all women in the movie is that irrespective of age, love is what really matters. Peter makes me feel like falling in love with an older man. And of course most of them are far better that these young men in shorts who will promise and profess live without an iota of sincerity.
Hi Tina, I agree with your comments. I wish more movies presented men like “Peter.” Too bad he couldn’t live happily ever after with the one he loved.
I liked Peter as well, so cool and understanding. Very patient man. Makes me feel like becoming a young woman just to be loved by such a nice man.
pls who sang the song used in Love regardless?I have searched and searched, but am not getting anything reasonable. Thanks all.
Hi Amak, so sorry but I don’t have the music information for the movie.
The movie is epic. l have always being on a lookout for an African movie built on real strategies and convincing concepts.
The poetry is a major attraction for me,simple and comprehensible.
The sound track is a killer… Please l love to make a request “HOW CAN I GET THE CORRECT VERSION OF THE SOUND TRACKS used in the movie?.
Love Regardless is my very kind of movie. Watching that movie alone, l have written four poems more.
l love Peter’s assent,it is matured and African.

Hi Akintola, loved your comments. This is one of my favorites too. I would watch it again if I had the time.
I really enjoyed the movie, very simple and cuts to the chase, no meaningless dialogue. I feel sad about Peter dying in the movie.
Please what is the name of the Ghanaian song that was also used in the movie?
Hi Nk, I enjoyed this one too. So sorry that I don’t have song info.

Hi Racheal, sounds like you had a ball. I too, loved this movie and Peter. Yes, he was a dream man and there can’t be that many like him out there. I thought the relationship between Peter and Ivory was well developed. I just wish the writers didn’t kill the best character.
Yes Racheal. There are men like Peter and plenty of them. But i doubt if women or a girl like Ivory could be found anywhere in this world. Really nice movie and almost so real.
Have enjoyed this movie and so far the only African movie i have watched twice now. I wouldnt mind to watch it again and again. Its almost seems so real and the cast eas really great.
I have watched this movie twice now in Kenya and it’s so great, you really feel the love between the two and Peter, he MTS your heart as a true gentleman.whywad he killed?? Well maybe it just wasn’t meant to go so far, some true love actually never last for too long.
It’s my sweet African movie so far
🙂
This is so far my best African production. So simple and without complications. I just liked all the cast involved in this movie. Hats off to all and rspecially the writer who did the script of this great love story. Who would even bother watching Hollyhood and Bollyhood.
Hi James, I see you enjoyed this movie too. I do agree with your comment about the writing because I feel the writer did a good job developing the relationship between the love interests. Not all writers have that talent. As the relationship grew, we, the audience became more invested in them and that’s the objective. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I love the movie
And I’ve been trying to download the song ivory sang at the end, YOLO, but I can’t seem to find it. Help a girl out please
The movie is actually quite engaging. I don’t why I fell in love with most of the songs played in it. How could one get the song list, please? The artists’ names are quite faint as they’re mentioned at the end.
