Title: MARY THE PROSTITUTE (1 & 2)
Sequel: WHEN WE CRY (1 & 2)
Starring: Mercy Johnson, John Dumelo, Faithia Balogun
Synopsis:
A barren woman desperate to give her husband a child hires a prostitute to get pregnant in place of her and although the contract called for business, human emotions played a big part in the transaction.
Review:
Four years into her marriage, Adora (Faithia Balogun) had not produced a child. After a visit with her doctor she learned that it wouldvnever happen.
The devastation and shame of being barren prompted Adora to hire Mary (Mercy Johnson), a prostitute, to have a baby with her husband. The deal called for Mary to live in the house with them, get pregnant, give them the child, and then disappear.
Adora’s intention was to pass the baby off as her own and she announced to her family that she was pregnant. She made sure to wear a pillow in her stomach any time they visited.
During her stay in the house with Adora, Mary began to renege on the contract when she developed feelings for Adora’s husband, Michael (John Dumelo). She made passes at him and he played along with her to ensure they get the baby they paid handsomely for.
Mary actually thought she had a secret relationship going on with Michael but right after the birth of the baby, he confessed that it was all just business. She believed Michael really loved her and she was left feeling jerked and used. As a result, Mary threatened to expose their secret if they didn’t pay her five million more. After they paid her, she made even more demands for money.
Let’s Talk. The premise of this story was far fetched but still entertaining. Of course Adora could have easily adopted a child, or hired surrogate mother that wasn’t prostitute, but had she done so we wouldn’t have had the hilarious movie called “Mary the Prostitute.”
Mary bunped into a job that was better than prostitution and she decided to manipulate the situation to her advantage. Even after she became pregnant, Michael still had sex with her at the request of his wife. Is that ridiculous or what? Adora told Michael to “make love to Mary so she feels a sense of belonging.” Crazy.
However, humorous scenes such as when Adora pretended to have labor pains during her fake pregnancy offset some of the implausible dialogue and situations.
Performances here were believable, most notably Mercy Johnson who was awesome playing the scheming Mary.
As for technical issues, sound throughout the entire movie was poor on my copy. The picture quality was also not the best but I can live with mediocre video if the sound is decent. I promised myself that I would no longer suffer through movies with inadequate sound however, I continued to watch because it starred two of my favorites, John Dumelo and Mercy Johnson.
Overall, a captivating movie. RECOMMEND
