Starring: Mercy Johnson, Mike Ezuruonye, Tony Umez
Synopsis:
A priest enlisted to save a royal princess from a moon cult develops feelings of passion for her despite his religious teachings.
Review:
Igwe Osita (Tony Umez) thought he had killed the evil moon maid in his village but he was unaware that she was reincarnated through his only daughter, Chima (Mercy Johnson). Thirty years later, Chima’s powers as a moon maid manifested and she led a cult of other maids throughout the community.
The goal of the cult was to abolish Christianity and make worshipping the moon the official religion. To accomplish this, the maids became rebels that terrorized the town. Priest Philip (Mike Ezuruonye) was called upon to rescue Chima from the cult but the task became complicated when he found himself desiring her.
Let’s Talk. Devotion to the moon has been a part of mythology and many cultures around the world for centuries. Not only does the moon miraculously light the night, it’s also associated with magic, and it’s been used for many reasons such as navigation and the planting of crops.
In this particular story, there was a wicked moon worshipper and her sinister ways were transmigrated to ten women in the village after her death. Chima (Mercy Johnson) was one of the women and the chosen ringleader. Her parents didn’t know how to rid her of the dark spirit that possessed her and that’s when Father Philip (Mike Ezuruonye) entered the story with a mission to return Chima to her Christian faith while avoiding harm to both of them.
I liked this story for it’s traditional landscape and references to the word of God. It was a tale of good versus evil and conflict set in when a priest was tempted by the flesh of a woman while the possessed woman reluctantly felt the spirit of love toward him.
The one aspect that I didn’t quite believe were the scenes where the moon maids raped men. Is that possible? Can a man be forced to have sex with a woman against his will? If a man isn’t willing then what triggers the erection needed to have sex? Sorry to go there. Just trying to understand this. And the men felt shame after having sex with very willing women. Hmm…also questionable.
In terms of performances, it starred two actors that I hold in great regard – Mercy Johnson and Mike Ezuruonye. It took thirty-five minutes for Mike to be incorporated into the story and for me, he didn’t get enough screen time. As for Mercy Johnson, she simply masters any role placed in her care. The romantic facet between the two wasn’t the greatest but in fairness, romance wasn’t the topic at hand.
This story was developed by actress Mercy Johnson and Emeka Ferdinard Anene while Tchidi Chikere wrote and directed the screenplay. I’ve come to expect proficiency from Tchidi and minus a few scenes, he once again, didn’t disappoint. Sooo, if you like those enchanting, traditional, dramas then check this one out. RECOMMEND

Hi do you know if there are any stores in new york that sell old african movies legally
Hi Stephie, Executive Image and Franco Films were two of the biggest distributors in NY and they went out of business. African Movie Mall is still open but their business is now online and they sometimes re-release old movies which are hard to find. There are a few stores in Harlem that sell African movies but I haven’t been in a while and I don’t know if they’re still around. I will let you know if I can provide a concrete address for you.
Appreciating the dedication you put into your website and detailed information you provide. It’s great to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same unwanted rehashed material. Excellent read!
America, thank you for your kind words. All the Best!
Hello Stephie there is one other store in New York.. Africa Movies.com Just do a google search for the address and phone contact.
Oh yes. Thanks JJ. I forgot that Africamovies has a physical location that sells movies…or at least they did at one time. So yes, Stephanie should give them a call to see if they can help her. I haven’t been to the site in a while but I remember that they did have a decent selection of old movies.
