Starring: Uche Jombo, Kenneth Okolie, Yemi Blaq
Synopsis:
A single woman in her thirties felt pressured to get married and purchased a wedding dress before she received a marriage proposal.
Review:
Kaira (Uche Jombo), was determined to get married. After hearing a motivational speech and having a strong belief in faith, she purchased a wedding dress.
Her boyfriend hadn’t proposed and never did. But she found a new boyfriend who treated her like gold – but there was one thing wrong…he was married to someone else. After a series of failed relationships, Kaira wondered if she would ever walk down the aisle wearing the dress.
Let’s Talk. This is a charming story and a great role for Uche Jombo to play. She played Kaira, a borderline crazy woman that dipped in and out of reality.
There were a few flaws with the story. First of all, Kaira became pregnant and was unaware that Dapo, the father of the child, was married. It’s inconceivable that Kaira would be pregnant and considered marrying a man whose home she’d never been to. The fact that Dapo never invited her to his house during the entire courtship was a red flag, even for the severely retarded.
When Kaira introduced herself to whom she thought was Dapo’s sister, she immediately let on that she was pregnant. That woman turned out to be his wife. Letting the cat out of the bag was presumptuous and unrealistic.
It’s unlikely that a woman would let on that she’s pregnant to a stranger just like that. Furthermore, even if the woman was Dapo’s sister, it wasn’t Kaira’s place to announce her pregnancy to his family. This scene turned out to be the most contrived moment in the movie.
Making matters worse, after hearing about Kaira’s pregnancy, Dapo’s wife just walked away and left the two of them alone. Clearly she didn’t think it was her business to find out what was going on between Kaira and her husband.
Speaking of Kaira’s pregnancy, she never gave birth. The story just moved on as though she was never pregnant.
In terms of acting, Uche Jombo was great, especially when she played the off-beat side of the character. The balance of the cast sufficed as well.
The upside of “Mrs. Somebody” is that it was humorous and peppered with spirituality. It reminds us that God does answer prayers. RECOMMEND
