Starring: Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, Nnamdi Eze, Andy Chukwu
Synopsis:
A streetwise businessman known for his tough persona falls for a prostitute that throws him for a loop.
Review:
Cross (Ramsey Nouah) got his name because anyone that double-crossed him ended up dead. He had no problem eliminating those that wronged him and he made a living from blackmailing corrupt officials.
Cross was a single, wealthy, man until he met Helen (Genevieve Nnaji). Helen was a prostitute but she was fearless and feisty and that turned him on. He took an immediate interest in her but she was reluctant to give up her freedom and her longtime boyfriend in exchange for a commitment to him. But Cross loved her so much that he convinced her to marry him.
Cross was literally lovesick during the marriage and he not only slacked on business, he gave Helen access to his bank accounts. She was secretly in contact with her ex-boyfriend and slipped him some money. When Cross got wind that she was in communication with her ex, he forbade her to leave the house and if she did, his goons followed her.
Consequently, Helen felt like a prisoner and wanted a divorce but Cross made it difficult. This got her wheels turning and she figured if Cross died, she would finally be free of the marriage and also inherit his millions. She made plans to kill him and foolhardily dismissed the meaning of his name.
Let’s Talk. Bad boys. What is it about them that drive women crazy? Well, in this case, it was the contrary because Helen was never in love with Cross and that was ideally the story.
What’s crazy is that Cross would fall so hard for a prostitute. He was presented as a hard-nosed businessman that was feared by many so it seemed unlikely that his emotions would run that deep for a hooker. Why would he want a woman that any man with a dollar slept with?
It was also odd that Helen didn’t fall for Cross. He was an attractive man with the means to get her off the streets and he loved her. It’s a difficult plot to swallow but hey, that’s the story and it was enticing nonetheless.
Both Cross and Helen had their demons. They both made an income illegally but they certainly weren’t a match made in heaven because Helen was still in love with her ex-boyfriend. By the story’s end Cross and Helen came face-to-face with their issues and each other.
Performances? Some of the supporting roles were cast with stiff actors but watching Ramsey play this character made up for anything that went wrong. He played the bad boy and he was sinfully good. For costumes, he sported a number of different hats but it’s hats off to him. I loved him in this role and I couldn’t take my eyes off him.
Genevieve Nnaji played the prostitute and her character was self-assured, gutsy, and mischievous and she embraced the traits well.
This movie was no rip off. It certainly gave its share of murder, blackmail, and betrayal and the chemistry between Ramsey and Genevieve was the magnetic force. If you don’t know what to watch tonight, this is it. RECOMMEND
