Starring: Fulu Mugovhani, Tumi Morake, Bohang Moeko, Yonda Thomas
Synopsis: After a few failed relationships, a newly single woman tries to adapt her best friend’s carefree and uncommitted lifestyle.
Review:
Dineo (Fulu Mugovhani) got her heart broken on Valentine’s day but soon bounced back with a new relationship with Lunga (Bohang Moeko). Little did she know he was engaged to someone else which, once again, threw her back into the singles market.
Her best friend, Noni (Tumi Morake) loved being single and led a life of casual sex. As far as Noni was concerned, this was the way to go as a single woman and she encouraged Dineo to take the same route.
Let’s Talk. This is a romcom that followed two female companions that had opposing perspectives on dating. While Noni engaged in numerous flings, Dineo was looking for a commitment.
The two had reasons for their philosophies, and both understandable, yet both scenarios had its challenges. Noni’s lifestyle was risky and had a level of emptiness while married life had no guarantees. People, for the most part, don’t want to be alone, and finding a mate is indeed a grueling task. But the search for love goes both ways. Men and women are seeking each other so it’s just a matter of that miraculous match waiting to happen.
This movie was hilarious. I knew it would be a treat the minute I saw how the Noni character was introduced. It’s a quick paced story that never came up for air. It’s jam packed with club scenes, sex, breakups and witty dialogue.
As the story progressed, the women seemed to tip the scale as they unwittingly inched into the other’s values. As Noni’s wall came down, Dineo’s went up, By the end, they didn’t quite attain their goals but nonetheless we were entertained by their antics.
Nollywood’s “When Love Happens” had a similar premise where the search for love was intricately explored. Of course, dating is universal so the subject matter will attract mainstream audiences for years to come.
There were a few flaws. Some scenes were not as funny as intended and there were story issues such as the scene where Lunga (Bohang Moeko) was suddenly and conveniently divorced and wanted Dineo back. There wasn’t much of an indication that he suffered conflicting feelings when he dated both women so this turn of events just didn’t ring true.
Somewhere between the dates, the partying, and sex, we probably expected something profound or some sort of life lesson. That didn’t quite happen here as the movie was clearly produced in the name of fun and weaved in a little romance. So loosen up your tie or take off your pearls and just roll with the punches!!
Fulu and Tumi made a dynamic duo; they were as vibrant as the sun with a super endearing rapport. RECOMMEND
