Title: SILENT SCANDALS (1 & 2)
Starring: Genevieve Nnaji, Majid Michel, Uche Jombo, Chelsea Eze
Synopsis:
A successful and reserved woman marries her chauffeur only to find that he was once involved with her daughter who still has feelings for him.
Review:
Jessy (Genevieve Nnaji) is a successful and beautiful woman that had given up on men. As a result she resorted to being an uptight woman that spent all of her time on her career and raising her teenage daughter. When her daughter went abroad for studies she hired Neto (Majid Michel) as her personal driver. She was unaware that he was once involved with her daughter and he had no idea that she was his ex-girlfriend’s mother.
Jessy sought a political position and she was advised that being married would make her a more stronger and stable candidate. She made a rash decision to marry Neto, in name only, and the marriage was strictly for this purpose.
Neto planned to collect the 15 million she promised him for his services but it wasn’t that simple. The two developed an attraction for each other and fell in love. By the time Jessy’s daughter returned from abroad, Jessy and Neto had already spilt but they were still harboring feelings.
Now a single man, Neto was free to rekindle his relationship with Jessy’s daughter and this was when the connection between Jessy, Neto, and the daughter, came to light. As a result, loyalties were challenged and life-altering decisions had to be made.
Let’s Talk. “Silent Scandals” boasts a star-studded cast and started off great. Vivian Ejike, the screenwriter, did a fantastic job building story conflict, however, there are many flaws.
First off, without giving the story away, the ending was a cop-out and negated all of the emotional scenes between the characters. It’s almost as though she had the beginnings of an intriguing story and then got tired of writing.
Apparently, even she couldn’t resolve the issues that the characters were faced with. As a result we were left with many unanswered questions such as 1) what exactly happened in the so-called accident? 2) how was the paternity of the baby handled? 3) what happened to Jessy’s political career? and 4) did Ella and Jessy think Neto was dead?
If only Ella found out about her mother’s secret relationship! Now THAT would have been a scandal and a six-part movie.
In terms of casting, “Silent Scandals” is a winner. Genevieve Nnaji is a master at playing characters with conflicting emotions bottled up inside. Uche Jombo played a supporting role that didn’t display her “A” game but we know she’s got it.
Newcomer, Chelsea Eze oozed with potential. As for Majid Michel, he’s a pro but the only bothersome tidbit was that he portrayed a twenty-six year old but looked older. He did have magical chemistry with both women though. Kudos to the wardrobe department that dressed him age appropriately for his scenes.
The popular saying “you had me at hello” holds true for “Silent Scandals” and although the ending left a lot to be desired it more than qualifies for a RECOMMEND
