SINGLE BUT MARRIED

War Against Women

Title: SINGLE BUT MARRIED (1 & 2)

Sequel: WAR AGAINST WOMEN (1 & 2)

StarringMartha Ankomah, Eddie Watson, Christabel Ekeh, Mary Jane Okeye

Synopsis:

Sam is an abusive husband who’s having an affair with his co-worker meanwhile at home, his maid has a secret vendetta against him.

Review:

“Single But Married” commenced with extended flashback scenes where we followed Sam’s (Eddie Watson) relationship with Julia. Julia was the sister of his maid and we learned that she died due to complications from her fifth abortion, all fathered by him. As a result, his maid (Cristabel Ekeh) was on a revenge trip and secretly plotted to avenge Julia’s death.

The subplot was about Sam’s cheating ways and his physical abuse of his current wife, Karina (Martha Ankomah).

Let’s Talk. A mess. If the film had delved into Sam’s relationship with his wife instead of his past relationship with Julia, the audience might understand WHY Karina loved the abusive Sam so much. Part one was such a  waste of time!

The sequel titled “War Against Women” continued the pointless story and touched on domestic abuse. Somewhere in the story Karina lost her baby and Sam was highly upset. It was hard to accept Sam’s fury when he is the same man that forced his ex-girlfriend (Julia) to abort FIVE babies. Huh? When did Sam’s love for children materialize?

It was difficult to empathize with Sam and Karina when these characters were so underdeveloped.

Adding to the chaos were technical difficulties such as music that was louder than the dialogue and the sound of slap that never really landed. (See Problems With Nollywood movies for more on this topic.)

From the senseless musical choices to the clear as day pillow in Karina’s stomach during her pregnancy, to the meaningless subplots, this movie was just painful to watch. It lacked a plot, went nowhere, and was confusing at best. EJECT
