SO IN LOVE

Starring: Belinda Effah, Bryan Okwara, Mary Lazarus, Lillan Esoro, Adunni Ade

Synopsis:

Two women compete for a man’s attention only to learn that his heart belonged to someone else.

Review:

The friendship between Mary and Rose (Lilian Esoro & Adunni Ade) was just fine until Kelvin (Bryan Okwara) walked into their lives. He lived a few doors away and when he paid them a neighborly visit the women were instantly love struck.

Both women bent over backwards to get Kelvin to notice them. Tempers flared and catfights ensued as one tried to outdo the other. While the women competed for Kelvin’s attention, he had an ulterior motive for becoming acquainted with them.

Let’s Talk. This is a romantic comedy about two women that shamelessly competed for a man’s affection. The problem was that the story wasn’t alluring in any way and neither were the characters. It was comprised of witless dialogue, irksome come-ons, and it barely created any laughs.

The story was rehashed – we’ve seen some semblance of this movie before. But as discussed in previous reviews, this is the movie business and original movies are occasional at best.

Kelvin (Bryan Okwara) was the main attraction and although he is handsome, I just wasn’t understanding his hair. Yes, some men wear braids and the disheveled look works for some, but his hairstyle was just weird and unappealing.

What was interesting was how the women got all dressed up and put on their best for dates. The women looked like they were heading to the grand ball while Kelvin was always casual. Do women really need to overdress to impress these days? It turned out that the woman that Kelvin desired was as laid back as he was.

Performances weren’t bad; it’s just that the story didn’t need to be told. It concluded with that common “happy ever after” syndrome where the couple rides off into the sunset but it was a farce because their relationship was never developed, therefore it was difficult to become engaged in their bliss.

Overall the movie excelled at nothing and was just another run of the mill movie.  EJECT

Agreed, this was not a great movie although it helped that Kelvin is particularly easy on the eye. Notably, the chemistry between Kelvin (Bryan Okwara) and his friend Iyke (Uzor) was fantastic. The billiards hall scene was some of the most convincing acting I’ve ever seen in a Nollywood movie. Looking forward to seeing more from these two promising actors and liking the new direction some are taking with this subtle but far more natural acting.

      Hi Misss600,

Thanks for sharing your view of this movie. It didn’t make my “Recommended” list but you are right in that there is some promise for the industry with the improved acting but they still need to come up with better stories. Let’s see what 2017 brings.
