Synopsis:
A corporation that maintained a secret department for the sole purpose of illegal takeovers hit a bump in the road when two of its key members quit.
Review:
TMC is a company that seized ownership of other companies through theft, destruction, and blackmail. They had a secret department that developed strategy for such missions.
Nnamdi and Tolu (Majid Michel & Osas Ighodaro) were a part of the group but announced that they were leaving. They got married and moved to Ibadan to start life anew but Tolu was lured back for one more assignment, much to Nnamdi’s dismay.
Nnamdi tried to convince Tolu not to get involved and when that didn’t work he set out to sabotage the mission in order to salvage his marriage. As part of his agenda, he switched alliances and divulged company secrets to one of TMC’s victims.
When the owner of TMC learned of Nnamdi’s disloyalty, his life was suddenly on the line, which left him and Tolu to figure out how to outsmart the very department they were once a part of.
Let’s Talk. This is a corporate drama about a company that indulged in illegal procedures for it’s takeovers. It’s an unconventional storyline that’s ripe with intrigue but it could have used more action scenes.
It was an ambitious production and was refreshing to watch because it abandoned the common theme of infidelity and left village poverty by the wayside. Women were not portrayed as prostitutes and men weren’t flaunting their wallets for a piece of action.
The secret department was a very successful one until disagreement threatened to dismantle it. That’s when alliances were traded and members played their hands according to whom they were loyal to.
The story left questions regarding Nigeria’s banking industry. In one scene, one of the CEO’s was forced to withdraw millions from his bank account through his laptop. How is it that the bank was able to see that his funds were disbursed into two hundred accounts but not able to supply names? How can such a huge withdrawal not be properly accounted for?
Also, unbelievable was the scene at the bridge. At one point, Nnamdi and Tolu were running for their lives, the police conveniently appeared, and then suddenly the van and the crew vanished. Hmm…
What I liked about this movie was O.C. Ukege. I enjoyed seeing his ruthless persona and he was adept at playing a callous businessman. The acting complemented the film and Desmond Elliott, Majid Michel, and Osas Ighodaro gave worthy performances as well.
The music was hot. I found myself snapping my fingers and shaking my booty to some of the scenes. 🙂
Ultimately, even with corporate raids, crime, and betrayal, something about The Department didn’t quite stir enough fire but nonetheless, I had a good time. Movies such as this should be the face of Nollywood. RECOMMEND
