Starring: Nonso Diobi, Dr Sid (Sidney Esiri), Padita Agu, Yemi Blaq, Bimbo Manuel
Synopsis:
A young man makes it his mission to get the last three numbers of the phone number of the woman that stole…his heart.
Review:
Alex (Nonso Diobi) knew Audrey (Padita Agu) was “the one” since college days. They formed a friendly relationship but they lost contact for a period of time until they ran into each other at the mall. Audrey was thrilled to see him and she was more than happy to give him her phone number but somewhere in the process Alex received a phone call that interrupted the placement of her number in his phone.
Later, when Alex realized he only had a partial phone number, he became obsessed with guessing the last three numbers. After dialing a series of wrong numbers, he inadvertently reached a member of a dangerous crime cartel. The crime lord became suspicious of the call and Alex found himself in a heap of trouble instead of in a love affair with Audrey.
Let’s Talk. This is a “dramedy” (drama with a little comedy) and it certainly had its share of ups and downs. First off, it’s understood that Alex was trying to guess the last three numbers of Audrey’s phone number but there were too many scenes where we had to watch him dial the wrong number. Some of it was funny but it got a little tired.
The fact that Alex inadvertently reached a gang of hoodlums is possible and I can accept that, but the events that followed weren’t so believable. And by the way, what ever happened to social media? Couldn’t Alex find Audrey on Facebook, Twitter, or regular email? How about their classmates?
Furthermore, Alex and Audrey attended school together so maybe one of her friends had her phone number. Some time should have been spent exploring other avenues instead of the enormous time spent on Alex dialing wrong numbers.
What I liked about the movie was the twist placed on the romance but the most interesting dynamic was that God placed Alex in trouble for a reason – and that was to mysteriously show him what the last three numbers were. Funny!
Nonso Diobi was fantastic. He really showed the emotions of a stressed out, super determined guy. Padita Agu played Audrey and she also executive produced the movie with Director, Moses Inwang. I thought she had the right charisma for the role and she paired well with Nonso.
Honestly, my feelings toward this movie are all over the map but based on effective performances, an unconventional storyline, an its upbeat pace, I’ll roll with it. It’s not “must see” status but it does tickle the funny bone and reiterates to never give up. RECOMMEND
