Title: THE MAIDENS (1 & 2)
Sequel: END OF THE MAIDENS (1 & 2)
Starring: John Dumelo, Mercy Johnson, Rita Dominic
Synopsis:
A wealthy King abuses his power and takes advantage of the palace maidens.
Review:
This is a royal tale about a King (John Dumelo) that had an insatiable sexual appetite. He ruled the palace with an iron hand but he had a soft spot for the maidens.
The Queen had been nonchalant about their love life for quite some time so the King filled the gap with his pick of the female staff. But like the lottery, it’s a numbers game and one of the women was bound to win his heart but the question became would his love be reciprocated.
Let’s Talk. The story is a royal saga. It’s slow moving and is split into four parts with part four being the best of the lot.
At one point in the story Queen Angela (Rita Dominic) appointed Rhoda (Mercy Johnson), a palace maiden, to be the King’s assistant. She knew her husband slept with the staff and yet she chose the only maiden that exposed her sexy stomach everyday to personally attend to him. How silly. She might as well have said “Please screw my husband.”
Eventually Rhoda became close to the king and of course, they had a sexual relationship. The next thing you know Rhoda changed her attitude and became a snooty b*tch. It was jarring to watch her go from the shy maiden to a tyrant in a blink. She was no longer the soft-spoken, sensuous, woman that the King originally fell for.
It was difficult to accept that the King would still be in love with her after the flip in personality but then again, she was behaving like an a**hole like him. Ah! There’s the common denominator.
Fast forward to the end and there was an apologetic kiss between the King and the Queen and the infidelity seemed to be forgiven. Was the audience supposed to believe that he was suddenly in love with his wife again?
As for technical stuff, when the actors spoke in the native dialect subtitles were not provided.
In terms of acting, “The Maidens” is on the ball for most of the actors. Not much to complain about there.
There were truly some hilarious moments in the movie and watching Mercy Johnson run the palace was reason enough to watch. RECOMMEND
