Title: THE PRINCE’S BRIDE (1 – 3)
Sequel: NONE
Starring: Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo, Yvonne Nelson, Kalsoume Sinare, Gavivina Tamakloe, Beverly Afaglo
Synopsis:
A young woman covertly arranged to meet the available Prince Akila but when he fell for her best friend she lost her grip and did the unthinkable.
Review:
Solange (Yvonne Nelson) carefully orchestrated meeting Prince Akila (John Dumelo) for the first time, however, he fell for her friend, Bernice (Jackie Appiah).
Bernice and Akila fell in love and planned a wonderful life together but Solange was jealous of their relationship and unable to deal with rejection. As a result, she arranged for thugs to violently cripple and blind Bernice.
The crime went as planned but unfortunately, Bernice couldn’t bare the injuries and died. Her spirit instantly separated from her flesh and she roamed the earth among the living. No one could see or hear her and it was only in spirit that she learned that Solange was responsible for her death.
Bernice’s only wish was to tell Prince Akila the truth and she was determined to talk to him, in one way or another.
Let’s Talk. “The Prince’s Bride” is a touching romance. It’s a story of love and loss as two women desired the same man. Prior to Akila’s love for Bernice, he had fallen in love with another woman that also died. His loss of two loves created deep empathy for him.
The prince offered a fantasy life to Bernice but her jealous friend cut her life short. Magically, the writers allowed the prince to return to his first love which, was great closure to the story.
Some of the scenes were outstanding. Two in particular were the romantic evening Bernice and Akila spent together and the other when Solange attempted to seduce Akila as Bernice reluctantly watched in spirit.
The major flaw in the story was that Solange’s crimes went unpunished and there was no focus on finding the killer. Solange got away with taking a life all for a man that never wanted her. It’s true that she wound up unhappy but the writers could have chosen to create an underlying message regarding envy.
The acting here was top notch. Jackie Appiah, John Dumelo, and Yvonne Nelson were great. The chemistry between John Dumelo and all of his love interests worked. He’s so good-looking that he can work alongside just about any actress.
Here’s a line that Bernice said to Akila – “if handsome had a face it surely would have been you.” How true is that?
“The Prince’s Bride” is an exquisitely realized drama that will be remembered for years to come. It’s heartbreaking, sentimental, and passionate. A true classic. RECOMMEND
