THE SCORPION

Starring:  Saint Obi, Dakore Egbuson, Benita Nzeribe, Tchidi Chikere

Synopsis

Linda is a man-eater that went around snatching other women’s men but she committed the ultimate sin when she slept with her best friend’s husband.

Review:

Linda (Benita Nzeribe) and Tochi (Dakore Egbuson) were best friends with different views on love. While men were nothing but a conquest for Linda, Tochi had sworn them off completely.

They met Frank (Saint Obi) while shopping and he took an instant liking to Tochi. She wanted no part of him so he asked Linda to coax her into taking an interest in him. Linda obliged but she attempted to take Frank for herself in the process.

Frank ignored Linda’s advances as he only had eyes for Tochi. After a fair amount of persistence, Frank finally got Tochi to come around and they were eventually married. Happily ever after? Not quite.

There was an evening when Tochi was ill and she had to spend the night in the hospital. Frank was home alone and Linda saw an opportunity to seduce him. She knew he wasn’t interested in her so she drugged his food to get him to sleep with her.

She wound up pregnant and demanded that he marry her and allow her to live in a home that he owned in the United States. Frank contemplated telling Tochi about the affair instead of meeting Linda’s demands but he decided against it.

Unfortunately, Frank was later killed in an armed robbery and this was when Tochi learned that Frank made Linda his second wife. Emotions ran high and Linda, Tochi, their families, and even the village elders argued over the matter.

Frank died without a will and the story then shifted to the rights of each woman as Frank’s wife and how his assets should be shared between them.

Let’s Talk. This movie moves slowly and it was obvious early on that Linda would succeed in seducing Frank but this does not detract from the story. Movies where friends sleep with the significant others of their friends should be a retired movie theme but this movie happened to be a good one.

The characters here were well fleshed out. It’s clear as day who each character was and what they’re about. Linda didn’t sleep with Frank to add drama to the story, it’s who she was. For some reason she got off on sleeping with other people’s men whether it was due to revenge, self-esteem issues, or plain physical satisfaction.

As for Tochi, she was a woman with a good spirit but she needed better judgement when it came to picking friends.

The legalities that played a part in the story was an interesting issue because while Linda betrayed her best friend it didn’t negate the fact that she had rights as Frank’s wife. It’s not clear why the writers made him marry her because he had enough money to just send her off to the US and never hear from her again.

As for the casting, it was perfection. Again, it was absolutely clear who each character was. Benita Nzeribe wore the role of the floozy, Dakore Egbuson embraced her character as the wronged wife, and Saint Obi just stole my heart. He was just awesome. He played the good guy – a dream guy, who was tricked into cheating on his wife.

There’s a scene or two that was a bit overdramatic but overall “The Scorpion” is a heart-wrenching story. RECOMMEND
