WARD 305

Starring:  Mary Remmy Njoku, John Dumelo, Mary Lazarus, Bobby Obodo

Synopsis:

After uncovering the unscrupulous activities of her husband, a woman seeks safe harbor in a mental institution.

Review:

After discovering her husband’s involvement in a secret cult, Emem (Mary Njoku) was forced to live life on the run. It was the reason behind her husband’s wealth and his life of crime insured a life of abundance.

Her husband saw her as a loose end because she had the ability to report him to the authorities. Aware of his intent to get rid of her, she allowed herself to be committed to a psychiatric ward. There, she was temporarily safe but that changed on the day she exited the facility and was hit by a car.

Emem was admitted to the hospital and coincidentally the driver of the car, Dr. Goke (John Dumelo) was also the doctor in charge of her care. He invited her to recuperate in his home unaware that she was on the run.

Emem’s family was unaware of her husband’s misdeeds and while she was secluded in Dr. Coke’s home, her family concluded that her disappearance was intentional so she could avoid sharing an inheritance left to her by her father. Her cousin then carried on affair with her husband and unwittingly led him to Emem’s whereabouts.

Let’s Talk. This storyline is best described as a suspense drama and it was different and fresh. It revolved around ritualistic cults and the desire to control life’s outcome but there’s always an exorbitant price to pay for such magic. Interestingly, the cult members looked like the average Joe so occultism isn’t always obvious.

The story was told in a roundabout fashion as it dipped in and out of the past. It wasn’t perfect due to circumstances that were inserted for story purposes which, turned out to be too convenient. There was also quite a bit going on in terms of plot but the intentions ultimately jived.

The goal to serve up murder, affairs, and rituals amidst a woman seeking shelter from her crazy husband was accomplished.  Ironically, the main character spent time in a psychiatric facility when it was her husband that was in need of mental evaluation.

Performances were okay. Mary Njoku played a woman that had everything stripped from her – a marriage, a baby, and almost her life. She played opposite John Dumelo who also gave a fine performance.

Production quality was great and audio sufficed. RECOMMEND
