Title: WEALTH APART (Full Story)
Starring: Jibola Dabo, Ruth Kadiri, Esther Audu
Synopsis:
A man with high rankings in the church disapproves of his daughters’s boyfriend and drives him out of town to make room for the man that he chose for her.
Review:
Peace and Sammy (Ruth Kadiri & Kaycee Immortal) were in love. They were from different walks of life as Peace lived a life of financial freedom while Sammy got by on average means.
Peace’s father, Chief Nnaji (Jibola Dabo) adamantly disapproved of their relationship and labeled Sammy a gold digger. He arranged for Peace to marry a man that he believed was more suitable and he offered Sammy five million naira to relocate to Europe. Sammy took the bait even though Peace was carrying his child.
When the chief learned that Peace was pregnant he threw her out of his home. While feeling abandoned, Peace met Joy (Esther Audu), a woman who had been trying to conceive a child for ten years. The two went through with an underhanded plan for Peace’s baby but things went array when Sammy later returned to Nigeria and wanted to resume his relationship with Peace.
Let’s Talk. Here we go again, another story where well-to-do parents disapprove of their child’s choice of a mate. (Yawn…) The difference with this story is that it exploited another overused theme where a woman pretended she was pregnant and passed off another woman’s baby as her own. Two copied stories in one. Genius.
Now, as discussed on the rating page, many movies are recycled. It’s a realism about movies, regardless of industry, and this website accepts it as long as the filmmakers make a good movie. Not the case here.
This movie was dry and flooded with uninteresting characters with the exception of Jibola’s character – and it’s not like he hasn’t played the egotistical/power-hungry type before. There was nothing here but fabricated drama that took the word melodramatic to new heights.
As for the story, the empathy that the writer tried to convey just didn’t translate. Why did Sammy, a guy who didn’t even have a job, deserve a woman from a prominent family? What were the qualities that Peace saw in him? The match wasn’t exactly made in heaven.
It wasn’t even a good love story because the chemistry between them was parched and obviously Sammy’s love of money was greater than his love for his girlfriend.
The one positive area of the movie was that the family was invested in their faith and verses of the bible were recited. It demonstrated that people who worship God often contradict the teachings of the Bible – not that that’s news.
Performances? C+
At the end of day there’s no reason to watch this movie. It certainly doesn’t deserve the three hours required to watch it. EJECT
