Starring: Weruche R. Opia, Gideon Okeke, Oreka Godis, OC Ukeje, Beverly Naya, Blossom Chukwujekwu
Synopsis:
A successful wedding planner is on a serious quest for love after her best friend becomes engaged.
Review:
Mo (Weruche Opia) is a beautiful event planner in search of Mr. Right. Thanks to her job she planned everyone’s wedding but her own. She suffered a twinge of jealousy when her best friend became engaged and it triggered the start of a desperate search for love. She vented on her blog about the frustration of finding a mate and then took up online dating.
After a few failed dates, Mo found out that her ex-boyfriend was the best man in her friend’s wedding. The two reconnected only for things to go array. Disappointment led her to confide in a male friend and she realized he may be the man she was looking for all along.
Let’s Talk. Yes, yes, yes! This is a realistic exploration of single-hood with the right amount of humor. It’s a character driven script where we get to experience a single woman’s turbulence in the hunt for true love.
It jovially delved into blogs, online dating, blind dates, and even reconsidering an ex. It prompts the single population to wonder if true love is in their presence and they just haven’t noticed. Take a second look ladies and gentlemen.
So, online dating. Does it make men lazy? Some seem to be intimidated to approach women in person these days. To all the single men out there, it’s alright to chase us, baby. We’ll catch you. 😉
The strength of this movie was its characters. Mo, the female lead was totally relatable and she was complemented with Tseju (Oreka Godis), who had the life of the party persona, and Tobe (Gideon Okeke), the man that secretly loved her. The characters were well balanced.
Story execution and pacing were on point. The only issue was that in some scenes there was too much dialogue but it wasn’t annoying enough to fast forward; it’s just that the conversations could have been tighter. Also, the anticipated romance between Mo and Tobe could have been a little stronger. One or two more “sweaty palms” scenes were needed.
Performances? The casting was pretty good. Weruche Opia was the movie and a great fit for the role. Also impressive was the employment of older actors. It was so cute to see Mo’s parents so in love thirty years later.
“When Love Happens” excels not only because it amusingly depicts the journey to love but also because it’s subject matter is universal. RECOMMEND

This one is also on my to get list…heeyy I’m working this Mac Mini overtime watching African movies. I am gonna upgrade my monitor to a 24″ HD Led since I have all this space available now. I went into a Best Buy store to get a first hand look at the monitor but I will order from a Computer store online same monitor at a lower price…yeess.
When love happens…I guess we’re loving our new Mac Mini? Tee-hee.
110% for real I do.
When love happens was among my comedy movies I did in my research.I like how they explore the challenges the modern woman who is financially stable and knows exactly what she wants for a spouse faces.Tobe and Mo could atleast be explored more.
I would have given this just 3 stars. There wasn’t enough romantic fire with the main couple when the movie was about them Good movie tho.
Hi Christine, I had the same opinion about the romance but overall it was captivating and I can say I didn’t lose interest.
I really enjoyed this movie. Oh by the way, TalkAfricanMovies, you saved me a lot of money. Since I started reading your reviews, I don’t buy a movie unless you have reviewed it. I read your reviews several times a week. Keep up the good Job!!!!!!!

Hi Patricia, thank you so much. It’s nice to know that my reviews are appreciated. All the best!
Too much accent..
Awesome and refreshing movie. Love the theme song.
Good acting. Realistic theme. But it felt rather like an American movie than a Nigerian movie. It lacked an African factor. Use of Nigerian movie was a good move but more ccmoukd have driven it home.
