Title: WHO LOVES ME?  (1 – 3)

Synopsis: 

Due to a failing heart, a woman near the end of her life is caught between two men: one that she loves and another that she feels gratitude for. 

Review:

Chantel (Jackie Appiah) is a beautiful woman that lived a pampered life. Unfortunately, she had health issues and unless she received a heart transplant she only had few months to live. She decided to focus on work and she left romance out of the picture.

One day in a restaurant she was oblivious to a man that was admiring her. The man, David (Majid Michel) was just about struck by lightening when he saw her. He became immediately obsessed with her and he sketched a portrait of her on the spot and many more followed.  

David’s home was filled with drawings Chantel although he had not officially met her. His mother (Kalsoume Sinare) thought it was strange but appreciated his love for the mysterious woman. Her only wish for her son was to see him happy. David’s wish came true and he did meet Chantel at a later date and they become close.

David had a premonition that Chantel only had 72 hours to live and it drove him crazy. His mother did the unthinkable and killed herself so that she can donate her heart to Chantel, thus realizing her only dream – making her son happy. David was devastated by his mother’s actions but at least Chantel had his mother’s heart and a chance at life.

After the transplant, things were looking up for David and Chantel until Rick (Frank Artus) surfaces. He’s Chantel’s first love and his presence challenged her loyalties.  Since a woman doesn’t know what’s really in a man’s heart, Chantel had to figure out which of the two men genuinely loved her.

Let’s Talk: First off, it’s inconceivable that David could become so obsessed with a woman that he hardly knew. Secondly, for David’s mother to kill herself in order to donate her heart to Chantel is overly dramatic. Chantel had only been in David’s life for a short time and she wasn’t his wife, she was barely his girlfriend so his mother’s actions were ridiculous.

Also, for a woman with heart issues, Chantel didn’t display signs of fatigue, shortness of breath, or any symptoms for that matter. Another pinch was the airport scene when they picked up Chantels’ sister. How come David had to fetch a cab ride home? With three cars present from the family, why didn’t someone offer him a lift?

I didn’t quite understand the Rick character. If he wasn’t really in love with Chantel then what was it that he was after? I can’t imagine it being money since he appeared to be well off himself. 

As far as performances, they were good. Jackie Appiah played two characters, Chantel and Jasmine. She had moments of brilliance playing the American accent/Jasmine character but then seemed to accidentally slip back into the Chantel character. Majid Michel is simply awesome at playing offbeat and obsessed characters.

Is “Who Loves Me?” an entertaining movie? Absolutely. Despite the flaws it was still engaging enough to RECOMMEND
