A hard-working man that provides his wife’s every need pretends he’s blind in order to catch her cheating.
Review:
When the pressure to get married hit home, Ihunna (Funke Akindele) was forced to settle for Thomas (Nkem Owoh) as a husband. She didn’t love him but at the time he was the only one that asked for her hand in marriage. But life was good because Thomas loved her and played the role of a husband without fault.
Thomas found work in another city and it left Ihunna with time on her hands to play. She had a number of “boytoys” and she used money to control them. But there was one loose end – Annabel, Thomas’ sister. Annabel (Ihuoma Nnadi) saw all that was going on behind her brother’s back and snitched.
Annabel constantly warned Thomas of Ihunna’s behavior but he wasn’t sure if it was the truth or jealousy. In order to see for himself, he came home one day and faked that he was blind.
While Ihunna believed Thomas couldn’t see, she carried on with her numerous affairs and even hatched a plan to get her hands on his money but Thomas stayed a step ahead of her and schemed to bring her down.
Let’s Talk. This is a “dramedy” about a couple that were covertly gaming each other. It’s a simple story but lively, thanks to Funke Akindele. The core of the tale lies in the fact that sometimes with vision one can’t see but when blind, so much becomes visible.
In terms of the story, it was a little unfathomable that a woman would bring another man into her marital home while her husband was there, blind or not. Apparently, Ihunna was willing to sleep with the entire town of Ihiala except for her own husband.
Through Ihunna, the movie humorously displayed that women can be players too. She had plenty of men and although they knew she was married, they all believed that they were her only lover.
What was also humorous was that when a woman cheats, as shown in the movie, a man finds it hard to believe but when a man cheats, women are much faster to believe it.
It was also a classic case of flipping the script. It was a female who dangled dollar bills and men came running. Funny! Also, it’s the men who endured emotional pain when they learned there was no future in the relationship.
Performances were pretty good. Nkem Owoh played the loving husband turned schemer to perfection. Funke Akindele is just a firecracker. She had to portray a loving wife, a control freak, and a manipulator, and she skillfully rolled the many layers into the character.
As for technical issues, the sound could have been a little better. There were times when the audio had a hollow effect.
Overall, “Wisdom of Thomas” is another entertaining movie from Writer/Director Tchidi Chikere. Not a moment of boredom here. RECOMMEND
